Westinghouse Oven Hotplate Repair

7th April 2026

If your oven or cooktop is not behaving as it should, it can quickly become a safety concern as well as an inconvenience. Recently, we attended a service call in Armidale for a Westinghouse oven where one of the hotplates was staying hot even after the control knob had been turned off.

This type of issue is often linked to a faulty simmerstat. The simmerstat is the component responsible for regulating the heat level of your hotplates. When it begins to fail, it can cause inconsistent temperatures or, as in this case, a hotplate that does not switch off properly.

After careful fault finding, the problem was confirmed to be a failing simmerstat. Given the age and condition of the appliance, we recommended replacing all simmerstats as a preventative maintenance measure. This approach helps avoid further breakdowns and ensures consistent performance across all hotplates.

While completing the repair, we also identified a cracked light switch. This was replaced at the same time to maintain safe and reliable operation of the appliance.

With all simmerstats and the damaged switch replaced, the hotplates are now functioning correctly again. The customer can confidently use their oven knowing it is operating safely and should continue to do so for a long time.
